HTL goes beyond the limits of today’s uses of biopolymers to create medical products breakthrough

Creating value for medical devices and pharmaceuticals
HTL’s mission is to meet current and future medical needs, bringing biopolymer-based innovative solutions to improve health and well-being.
We have been successfully supporting innovation in aesthetics, dermatology, ophthalmology and rheumatology. We leverage this expertise for the benefit of cutting-edge medical applications such as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, development of implants and prostheses. More and more research fields are integrating the use of biopolymers.

Unfolding the potential of biopolymers
Because the best remedies are those that reside in us, we have focused our research on the biopolymers naturally existing in the human body. We produce them by biotechnology using only non-animal-derived materials.
Based on our expertise and the successful history of HTL’s Hyaluronic Acid in medical devices, we see in this biopolymer, and more generally speaking in Glycosaminoglycans, much more potential to unlock. Every day, experts from various medical fields are leveraging the biological and mechanical properties of these safe biomolecules in development projects from incremental to disruptive innovation.

Collaborative innovation
HTL’s objective is to contribute to real breakthroughs for human health. Interdisciplinary collaboration between manufacturers, researchers and practitioners is the starting point. With a constant focus on partnerships with clients, academics and start-ups, we encourage the meeting of medical needs and biopolymers potential.

Why focusing on Glycosaminoglycan biopolymers?
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are natural components of the human body and are historically known for their water retention capacity. These polysaccharides are precious allies for the healthcare industry and medical practitioners due to their rheological properties, their biological properties (biocompatibility, biodegradability) and of course their safety. They are also investigated for their pharmacological activity. More functionalities can be added thanks to chemical modification.
A few examples of Glycosaminoglycans are Hyaluronic Acid, Chondroitin sulfate, Heparosan and Heparin.
